The Accountant Technician II Journeyman Division of Enforcement reviews and analyzes financial data, documents and manual or automated accounting systems in support of the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Division of Enforcement. The SEC’s Division of Enforcement utilizes a variety of data that contain current, historical and future information about sensitive public company data, mutual fund data, and trade/quote data.
Responsibilities
Reviews, analyzes, and interprets records of financial institutions, including account statements and wire transaction information, as well as company financial statements and related accounting data (i.e., general ledger and journal entries).
Summarizes large quantity of data into concise statements working with large Excel documents utilizing pivot tables.
Reviews financial documents such as vouchers, purchase orders, and invoices to ensure that proper cost centers are charged, that expenditures and revenues are recorded in the proper classification, and that purchases, and other transactions are proper in accordance with the approved budget. Determines the level and appropriateness of year-end closing accruals, prepayments, deferrals, depreciation, or adjustments.
Provides up-to-date detailed cost accounting information for budgeting and cost control purposes.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in a related labor category field such as Accounting or Finance from an accredited college, university, school, or educational institution that has been accredited by accrediting bodies or organizations recognized by the US Department of Education
Minimum four (4) years recent experience as an Accountant
Certified Forensic Accountant (CRFAC) OR Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE)
Ability to provide favorable credit history
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Experience with Microsoft Excel with a high level of proficiency creating and working with Excel files with pivot tables as required for arranging data and performing in-depth analysis, including e.g., scheduling of account activity and tracing the disposition of funds
Proficient in Microsoft Office Professional Suite with advanced knowledge in MS Excel including pivot tables
Knowledge and familiarity with public company reporting processes to include but not limited to General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
Experience interpreting data for trends, patterns, and anomalies
Possess a high level of accuracy and attention to detail in preparing work product.
Knowledge of manual and automated accounting systems used by banking, financial, and other institutions e.g., QuickBooks, Oracle, SAP, Flexi, AvidXchange
Ability to work independently on tasks without the need for continuous input from SEC Staff
Ability to work effectively in an extremely pressured environment
Ability to work efficiently and meet deadlines under direct supervision
Possess and use excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to work concurrently on a variety of projects, flexibility in shifting focus
Work may be performed under guidance of a contractor Auditor or Financial Analyst
Prior audit or experience investigating money laundering, and/or tax, securities, or financial fraud Preferred
Experience preparing declarations presenting results of analyses and providing testimony as to the same Preferred
