Position Purpose:

Under limited supervision, designs and implements departmental orientation and educational programs. Identifies learning needs of personnel based on compliance with ACCN and ENA standards and provides learning experiences that enhance clinical competence, professional and personal growth and fosters excellence in critical care and emergency patient care. Assesses the need for and provides educational resources internally as well as for outreach educational programs. Works with management team to determine educational and equipment needs. Participates with the Leadership Team in ensuring compliance with agency regulations, development and implementation of strategic plans, monitors the quality of patient care and the competency of staff. Works with Director, Clinical Nurse Managers, and staff in quality improvement process. Demonstrates involvement in professional activities, through participation in educational programs and meetings, and collegial interchange.

What you will Do:

  • Conducts annual and PRN needs assessment of each job class of personnel, reflecting patient population, technology, regulating agencies and standards of practice.

  • Develops and implements multi-disciplinary educational programs based upon needs assessment and quality improvement opportunities.

  • Organizes and maintains education records and supports each individual staff member in maintenance of their records.

  • Completes quarterly education review and submits report of education activities and attendance to the manager.

  • Develops and implements departmental educational programs.

  • Reviews and provides input into the competency expectations for each job classification in collaboration with the leadership team and CBP committee.

  • Conducts an annual evaluation of educational programs and submits an annual report to the manager.Demonstrates clinical competence and serves as a role model in clinical practice.

  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide service/care appropriate to the age of the patients served, in accordance with department/unit standards.

  • Develops and implements an internship program for identified classification of employee.

  • Secures, uses, maintains supplies and equipment, and returns resource materials and equipment for use with courses, programs and activities.

  • Develops and secures instructional materials needed for programs. Based on AACN and ENA Standards, maintains current department policies and procedures in conjunction with Clinical Practice Coordinator.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be a graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing.

  • Requires Masters in Nursing or related field or actively pursuing.

  • Requires a current nursing license in the state of Iowa.

  • Must have a minimum of 5-7 years of experience in critical care/emergency nursing practice.

  • Prior education experience preferred.

  • Must have good interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Active membership in a professional organization preferred with certification in critical care nursing (CCRN) or Emergency Nursing (CEN) desired.

  • Prefer knowledge and application of principles of adult education and clinical research.

  • Certification as Advanced Cardiac Life Support Instructor/Trainer preferred.
