The Cryptography Team is responsible for the management and Life-Cycle of PayPal’s critical key material in addition to the design, maintenance and deployment of PayPal’s hardware based cryptographic services. This includes protection data at rest and data in flight. We are currently seeking a talented and inspired individual to expand our team.
We are seeking a talented, creative, and passionate DevOps Engineer for a challenging opportunity to develop the next generation of cryptographic services. You will specialize in building high performance environments to support PayPal’s current and future offerings. You will contribute to the design, development, testing and ongoing operational support of these services.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
As a self-motivated and enthusiastic member of our team, you will work with extremely talented peers in a fun environment pushing the performance bar on modern cryptographic services that are highly scalable, reliable and available.
Participate in the design, implementation, testing, deployment and operational maintenance of cryptographic services
Deliver highly scalable cryptographic services that will support PayPal’s enormous transaction volumes.
Develop custom code to support the deployment of cryptographic services
Develop tools to enhance testing, automation and operational monitoring of cryptographic services
Participate in POC’s that will prototype and evaluate experimental services.
Fast prototyping of experimental ideas
Participate in crypto key generation ceremonies
Participate in the deployment and operational management of hardware-based cryptographic services
Develop innovative solutions that not only meet functionality requirements but meet performance, scalability and reliability requirements while adhering to implementation schedules, development principles and product goals.
Strong technical contributor capable or working individually and as part of small teams
Good at planning, prioritizing, experimenting, designing and documentation
Must be able to independently design and test major features as well as work jointly with other team members to deliver complex features
Help define product requirements, estimate engineering effort, plan implementation, rollout system changes and evaluate product performance.
Required Skills:
3+ years of development and operations experience in the following areas
Scripting and coding languages such as Java, C++ and Python
Experience in scripting languages
Working knowledge of developing tools for automation, monitoring, logging and alerting
Linux or Windows system management skills
Experience working in agile, fast-paced DevOps environments
Hands on experience configuration management and deployment tools such as Puppet, Ansible and other tools
Experience with monitoring and logging services including Syslog, SNMP and Splunk
Experience in network, server, and application-status monitoring
Desired Skills:
Security engineering experience in the following areas
Public Key Infrastructure
Cryptographic primitives
SSL/TLS negotiations and Cipher Suites
Asymmetric and Symmetric cryptography
JKS and CAPI/CNG based key stores
Key Management
Conducting key ceremonies
Contributing to Internal/external audits (PCI, SOX, Etc.)
SafeNet or Thales HSM product lines
Education:
Bachelor’s degree of equivalent
