The VCT R&D Engineer is responsible for researching and designing solutions to challenges that PayPal employees have in and around conference rooms. The role works closely with the manager to test and develop ideas per the vision of VCT leadership and user research. The engineer will provide detailed documentation to leadership for decisions based on solid research, testing and buy-in from stakeholders. The engineer has an eye for user experience balanced by organizational goals such as security, stability and strategy.

Job Overview

The VCT R&D Engineer is responsible for researching and designing solutions to challenges that PayPal employees have in and around conference rooms. The role works closely with the manager to test and develop ideas per the vision of VCT leadership and user research. The engineer will provide detailed documentation to leadership for decisions based on solid research, testing and buy-in from stakeholders. The engineer has an eye for user experience balanced by organizational goals such as security, stability and strategy.

Responsibilities and Duties

The following responsibilities and duties are required in this role:

  • Work closely with management and leadership to document the vision and goals of the VCT technology stack

  • Research technologies and weigh them against the vision and goals

  • Provide regular updates to management on roadmap and next steps

  • Report up on solutions that have been explored and where they would potentially fit in light of the vision and goals. Document aspects of solutions such as “pros and cons,” “potential costs and savings,” “overall impact of solution,” “risks to implementing,” “user experience and benefit,” and other facets answering “why” we would choose a technology for PayPal.

  • Work with various stakeholders to validate technologies that are acceptable to PayPal (InfoSec, NetSec, Networking, other OCIO teams, various support teams, etc)

  • Work with the global regions to test potential solutions and garner feedback

  • Utilize resources such as integration partners and internal PayPal teams in the process or conducting research and due diligence

  • Move products and technologies into production by working with Change Management team, ensuring proper documentation, support structures and learning materials have been developed.

Qualifications

The following qualifications describe the engineer role

  • 10+ years supporting and deploying audio visual equipment

  • 5+ years working with visual collaboration tools such as video conferencing

  • Experience writing reports and whitepapers on technologies and trends

  • Experience working directly with end users and ‘feeling their pain'

  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting technical issues

  • Experience evaluating new technologies & stakeholder requirements

  • Highly organized and able to regularly deliver on multiple projects

  • Familiarity reading AV line drawings and architectural drawings

  • Demonstrated ability to rapidly learn new technologies & skills

  • Hands on experience with Polycom, Crestron and Microsoft Skype for Business

  • Ability to communicate, both verbally and written, with a high level of confidence in a professional work environment.
