Work closely with the ETX senior leadership team, to help define the next generation of employee and corporate facing technologies. The leader will be responsible for shaping our technology strategy and architecture to deliver against these objectives and adhering to our design principles: •Empower business verticals with horizontal integration that enables workflow automation and business process interoperability •Ability for employee to seamless move from one device-platform to another •Deliver persona base offerings to ensure a rich and efficient experience

We seek an experienced technology leader who is not wedded to the past; an innovator and a disruptor in evolving PayPal’s employee facing capabilities into the future. The successful leader will create a practice of Architecture Leaders, leveraging Domain Architects residing within each of technology verticals: People, Finance, Sales, Marketing, Operations, Legal, etc.

The Head of Architecture promotes forward-thinking, data driven, proven, secure and scalable technical architectures that enables both PayPal’s corporate business units and employees to thrive. The Head of Architecture will assess current state, investment plan and portfolio are designed and implemented to deliver against the defined strategy.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Trusted technology advisor to the VP: Serve as on-the-ground technical ‘voice’ for a wide variety of cross-functional initiatives for both the VP and leadership team. Ability to navigate internal networks, build internal consensus and lead is a must.

  • Strategic Thinking and Research: Bring outside-in thinking to the organization, highlighting industry trends that should be considered and evaluated. Act as an innovator, disruptor and executioner in informing and driving all aspects of our technical strategy.

  • Collaborate with ETX leadership: Establish goals and intended outcomes relating to product security, platform and infrastructure security, security tools strategy, and architectural direction contributing to a technical strategy shaped by the PayPal business strategy - against the backdrop of a fast changing, evolving global marketplace.

  • Analysis & Insights: Lead the rationalization and expansion of large-scale architectures that will support PayPal’s growth; planning for the security, resiliency and effortless experience for the ETX product portfolio. Drive teams to consensus on designs, patterns, best practices and implementation methods that are enterprise adopted and business applicable.

  • Gap Analysis: Assess gaps between current and target architectures, evaluate options, and develop appropriate solution strategies leveraging PayPal's technologies in combination with 3rd party, open source and COTS products.

  • Manage architecture staff: Directly and in some cases in-directly manage architecture; provide technical guidance, challenge, coach and help architect grow in their careers and help them resolve emerging technical problems facing our business.

  • Internal Consultant: Provide expertise to business units and colleagues across the company who are building platform, infrastructure, and database applications and frameworks

  • External Voice: Represent PayPal to external parties in building long-term roadmaps for external security products

  • Develop multi-year Employee strategy: and security products roadmap including architecture blueprints. These blueprints define and guide specific areas of investment and alignment of security capabilities required within platform solutions such as public and private cloud deployment, data center services, database and systems infrastructure, security instrumentation, and platform frameworks

Candidate

The ideal candidate has proven experience in transforming technology architecture at scale in a fast-paced environment; applying strong technical, consultative skills, including business acumen, customer empathy, and the ability to influence and partner. This person thrives in a dynamic, global, fluid, matrix environment and is results-focused. Is comfortable leading from both the front and the rear, as situations dictate. History in architectural transformation with proven results, outcomes.

Bachelor’s degree required; Graduate degree is highly desirable.
