Xoom’s Infrastructure Engineering Team is looking for a operations-minded software engineer to help evolve our microservice-based platform. We address cross-cutting concerns: libraries, frameworks, tooling, security, and performance testing. Our contributions affect the entire engineering organization.

Our roots are in the Java world, but nowadays we work with many technologies such as Node.js and Golang. Docker is central to our stack. The best tool for the job.

Note: We are considering senior, junior, and candidates in between. Senior candidates are expected to have experience with most of the items on this list; junior candidates will be familiar with some.

Responsibilities:

Maintain and improve our Java libraries and frameworks (Spring/SpringBoot)

Contribute to our AuthN, AuthZ, Identity management systems

Advance our microservice-based architecture with better tooling and middleware (think Zipkin, LinkerD, Envoy, Kubernetes)

Assist with development of our performance testing system and associated tooling

Work across teams to identify / prioritize features

Accelerate our changes by jumping into business applications to update libraries and infrastructure code

Keep up-to-date with the latest thinking around microservices, containers, and container management systems

Requirements:

Software development experience in Java

Docker container development

Robust networking knowledge

Operations instincts. How do we make our Ops teams' jobs easier?

Passionate learner and technology adopter

Ability to communicate and document clearly

Works well in teams and across business functions

Pluses:

Experience in performance testing/analysis

Grafana, InfluxDB, Prometheus

Scripting in Bash, Python, Ruby.

Splunk or ELK logging systems

Kubernetes

OAuth2

Puppet

Golang, Node.js

Education:

B.S. in Computer Science, or equivalent work experience
