Responsibilities

This position will support Neurology-TCD practice.

Vascular Lab Technologists are expected to perform physiologic, peripheral vascular procedures according to protocol. Technologists receive the physician's referral diagnosis to determine the level of vascular disease present. Review pertinent patient medical history related to the requested vascular procedure and analyzes the appropriateness of procedure. Consults with physicians to change initial procedure order, when necessary. The technologist is responsible for initial review of all test results while clearly communicating the results to the vascular physician and will assist the physician in interpreting the results if needed. The technologist may modify testing protocol to assess the physiologic question being asked. Uses sound judgment in administering tests, assessment of ECG changes, and documenting observations to ensure safety of the patient and accurate test results. IRB approved research studies are periodically completed within the vascular lab, the technologists participate with the research design team in the development of protocols.

Qualifications

A.A. or A.S. in a healthcare/science program required. Prefer Bachelor's degree in healthcare/science program. Completion of the Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) certification within 24 months of employment. Minimum of Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. The technologist must be able to work independently and have good organizational skills. All employees hired prior to 1/2/08 received on-the-job training and do not need to meet the requirements listed above.Competence/experience in the areas of human anatomy and physiology, specifically in the peripheral and related cardiovascular systems. Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) certification (see above).
