At Coinbase, our mission is toincrease economic freedom around the world (https://blog.coinbase.com/our-mission-strategy-and-culture-18a92a3bb0fa) , and we couldn’t do this without hiring the best people. We’re a group of hard-working overachievers who are deeply focused on building the future of finance and Web3 for our users across the globe, whether they’re trading, storing, staking or using crypto. Know those people who always lead the group project? That’s us.

There are a few things we look for across all hires we make at Coinbase, regardless of role or team. First, we look for candidates who will thrive in aculture (https://blog.coinbase.com/culture-at-coinbase-f0e1c2a99aff) like ours, where we default to trust, embrace feedback, and disrupt ourselves. Second, we expect all employees to commit to ourmission-focused approach (https://blog.coinbase.com/coinbase-is-a-mission-focused-company-af882df8804) to our work. Finally, we seek people who are excited to learn about and live crypto, because those are the folks who enjoy the intense moments in our sprint and recharge work culture. We’re a remote-first company looking to hire the absolute best talent all over the world.

Ready to #LiveCrypto? Who you are:

  • You’ve got positive energy. You’re optimistic about the future and determined to get there.

  • You’re never tired of learning. You want to be a pro in bleeding edge tech like DeFi, NFTs, DAOs, and Web 3.0.

  • You appreciate direct communication. You’re both an active communicator and an eager listener - because let’s face it, you can’t have one without the other. You’re cool with candid feedback and see every setback as an opportunity to grow.

  • You can pivot on the fly. Crypto is constantly evolving, so our priorities do, too. What you worked on last month may not be what you work on today, and that excites you. You’re not looking for a boring job.

  • You have a “can do” attitude. Our teams create high-quality work on quick timelines. Owning a problem doesn’t scare you, but rather empowers you to take 100% responsibility for achieving our mission.

  • You want to be part of a winning team. We’re stronger together, and you’re a person who embraces being pushed out of your comfort zone.

The Coinbase Threat Intelligence team is a group of technical operators and skilled investigators utilizing cutting-edge (including self-developed) techniques to identify and disrupt threat actors. We work to enable the rest of Coinbase Security Operations (and the Security Team) to proactively operationalize intelligence at scale to protect Coinbase, Coinbase users, and the cryptoeconomy.

What you’ll be doing (ie. job duties):

  • Growing our threat actor tracking and analytic efforts, to provide actionable intelligence to our corporate security and ecosystem partners.

  • Monitoring and analyzing in-the-wild exploits and attacks that might pose a threat to Coinbase, determining attribution to a particular threat group, and working with our CSIRT to develop detections accordingly.

  • Researching emerging attack trends, uncovering attacker infrastructure and tools, and helping Coinbase make sure attackers have a terrible, horrible, no-good, very bad day.

  • Creating automations to handle repetitive research tasks and bridge the gap between existing and needed capabilities.

  • Sharing your most interesting findings via the Coinbase blog, internal and external presentations, and threat profiles or reports.

What we look for in you (ie. job requirements):

  • You’ve been doing practical security work and/or threat data analysis at scale for 4+ years, and you’ve got a strong track record for sharing your expertise and integrating solutions across the business.

  • You've used scripting and data query languages for data analysis or to automate a task that made you bored when you were asked to do it more than three (or a thousand) times.

  • You have experience working with or on security incident response, detection engineering, or threat hunting teams and understand how to translate your analysis into actionable insights for them.

  • You are adept at leveraging various investigative tools, skills, and approaches to navigate nuance, unknowns, and contextualize information. You embrace change and learning opportunities.

  • You are familiar with cloud, endpoint, authentication, and/or other types of security logs and how threat actor activity is reflected in them.

Nice to haves:

  • You would bring a diverse perspective to the team: for example, maybe you took an unconventional route throughout your security career.

  • You’ve got a passing familiarity with blockchains and cryptocurrency, or at least a good story about how you thought about investing in Bitcoin in 2014 but decided not to.

  • You have experience with graph database-based tools (e.g. Vertex Synapse) to analyze entity relationships and capture analytic knowledge.
