Position Summary

The Sr Manager for Portfolio Management Insights plays a pivotal role in developing analytical operational insights at the portfolio/project/study-level, as well as custom data reports crucial for Drug Development strategic decision-making. The successful candidate will work in close collaboration with Global Program Teams (GPTs), R&D Finance, P&RM Business Capabilities/Resource management, Portfolio & Strategic Operations Leads, Global Development Operations (GDO), and other key stakeholders across the organization to develop and implement R&D portfolio management insights and reporting capabilities. Overall, this role presents an exciting opportunity to focus on developing new capabilities at BMS and with an emphasis on driving valuable insights across the portfolio.

As a key partner across the Portfolio & Strategic Operations team, the ideal candidate will possess an understanding of drug development, coupled with advanced data acumen, to recommend tools and techniques that enable data-driven decisions, operational planning insights, and effective risk management, ultimately enhancing operational effectiveness for portfolio execution.

This role supports the Sr Director of Drug Development Portfolio Management Insights with data driven assessment of the portfolio and operational execution, monitoring across early-to-late pipeline, facilitation of portfolio prioritization processes (as part of Commercial Portfolio Strategy cross-functional team), generation of insights for Drug Development decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manages, creates, and executes strategic and technical drug development business operations insights and reporting. This includes primary and secondary research, forecasting and analytics.

  • Develops and delivers clear and concise presentations of analytics and corresponding insights, executing flawlessly to drive business and pipeline delivery priorities.

  • Influences and collaborates with key cross-enterprise stakeholders to ensure a high-level of engagement in key business discussions and adequate insights for driving fit-for-purpose analytical insights. Builds relationships with key cross-functional stakeholders to further shape our analytics capabilities; support select prioritized projects to upskill our organization.

  • Supports operational portfolio management insights and risk management/visibility amplification solutions, proactively providing data-driven visualizations and dashboards to address specific business needs.

  • Partners with Performance Central development team to drive automation and simplification of operational portfolio management reporting.

  • Implements the strategy for building operational portfolio insights capability to support decision making, resolves business challenges using systems and data. Leads continuous improvements of the project and portfolio reporting analytics.

  • Supports continuous improvement of emerging risks framework and operational portfolio risk monitoring, including timelines, resourcing, spend and other metrics at the study, program, and portfolio levels.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Data Science, Business, Statistics, or Finance required; MBA or Master's Degree preferred.

  • At least 4 - 5 years of progressive experience in secondary data analytics, strategic insights, business analytics, strategic forecasting, or a related field is required.

Experience

  • Highly developed skills in data transformation, statistical methods, unstructured and structured data, and data visualization required; business knowledge and understanding of clinical development drivers.

  • Experience in the drug development, medical device, biotechnology, or healthcare field is preferred.

  • Experience in Portfolio Management and Finance Management is preferred.

  • Proven track record of working in a matrix environment where a high degree of collaboration and influence is required.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and analytical tools (Spotfire, Tableau, or PowerBI) is required. Proficiency in analytical tools (SPSS, SAS, R, Python) is preferred.

  • Proven ability to analyze, develop and contribute to development of conceptual plans and lead implementation of process improvements

  • Strong personal skills to influence without authority within a highly technical environment, motivate others and manage conflict.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills as well as demonstrated organizational aptitude.
