As a Design Operations Lead in the User Experience Design Community of Practice at PayPal, you will create tools, frameworks and methodologies to support meaningful and cohesive end-to-end experiences through a deep understanding of our customers and exceptional design execution. You will collaborate with design, product and technology teams to foster efficiencies to support the creation of the next generation of financial service products by bringing the customer to the forefront in everything we do.
The ideal candidate is an all-around systems thinker and doer who understands the human centered product design process and design thinking methodologies. Focusing on process improvements, communication and program management, the Design Operations Lead will foster an atmosphere where strong design thinking and high design quality are expected and celebrated. He/She will thrive in a fast-paced work environment that requires strong problem-solving skills and independent self-direction, coupled with an aptitude for team collaboration and open communication. This individual should have a passion for empathizing with the needs and behaviors of our customers and our business and how to solve for them through design processes.
Sets up and manages programs/activities for the Community of Practice such as onboarding, critiquing, asset management, design mentoring and rotation, external presence, events & speakers, training etc.
Design, evaluate and recommend new tools, frameworks, technologies and methodologies to support the creation of end-to-end user experiences and helps the design team adopt through training and support.
Proposes new workflow solutions or optimizes existing ones. Encourages artifact reuse and consistency across team members and projects in partnership with the design systems team.
Sets an example and creates opportunities to foster collaborative cross-discipline dynamics. Drives UX team delivery excellence, furthering internal and external UX influence and goals.
Influence product, design and engineering executives through storytelling and analytics.
Collaborate across the company to create programs for speaking opportunities, external design presence and general design communications.
Collaborate with design leadership on hiring/recruiting programs, job descriptions, roles and responsibilities, recognition and evaluations.
Organize workflows, budgets, tools and infrastructure needs.
Leads efforts across the team, driving discussion and activities, while participating in delivery, planning and coordination efforts.
8+ years of professional experience as a UX Producer, Program Manager, Project Manager or Designer.
Bachelor or Master Degree in the study of design including one of the following; Design, Information Architecture, Human Factors or equivalent project/portfolio experience .
Excellent Project management, communication and organizational skills.
Experience leading cross-team efforts and synthesizing feedback and input from product management, engineering and design.
Passion for user experience and design operations.
Experience presenting to and effectively advising senior management.
Experience in a customer-centric, insights-driven design environment.
Experience with agile/scrum.
Experience leading delivery, through feedback, design critique, presentation to program sponsors, planning and coordinating with partners where needed.
Thorough knowledge of essential channels and platforms, with experience in mobile, dedicated, web and native solution design.
Excellent verbal and written skills.
Experience with resources such as product design systems, repositories and internal communication tools.
Solid knowledge of story and backlog management tools and resources such as JIRA, Rally.
