Job Description

The Division of Family Services provides temporary, emergency shelter to homeless families with children younger than 18 years of age and pregnant women and operates and maintains over 170 shelters for families with children throughout the five boroughs. The shelters are operated by over 50 providers, most of whom are non-profit social services agencies contracted to provide services.

Jamaica Family Residence, through collaboration with the leadership, Social Service team and Operational staff, prides itself on the level of services provided to its residents. Through assessments, engagements and referrals, the families are strengthened during their stay in the shelter to face their challenges and to return to community life.

The Department of Homeless Services is recruiting for one (1) Caseworker , who will:

  • Engage clients, provide intensive case management, and provide referral to various programs and organizations while ensuring the continuum of services.

  • Formulate Independent Living Plans (ILPS).

  • Utilize the Welfare Management System (WMS), CARES, NYC Way Databases to verify client benefit entitlements.

  • Maintain client caseloads.

  • Document and keep accurate case records.

  • Conduct field visits to various agencies.

  • Following required confidentiality rules, in order to obtain and/or verify missing information to the client case record.

Qualifications

  1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university accredited by regional, national, professional, or specialized agencies recognized as accrediting bodies by the U.S. Secretary of Education and by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).

Additional Information: Section 424-a of the New York State Social Services Law requires an authorized agency to inquire whether a candidate for employment with child-care responsibilities is or has been the subject of an indicated child abuse and maltreatment report on file with the State Central Register for child abuse and maltreatment. State Central Register screening will be conducted prior to considering a candidate for employment as a Caseworker. Candidates who have been the subject of an indicated child abuse and maltreatment report will not be assigned to any position which requires child-care responsibilities. Employees who have been the subject of such a report may be reassigned or terminated from employment from their positions as Caseworker.
