Where the chemistry happens…

We are currently seeking a Research Development Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in executing field testing of BASF traits across various crops, while also providing support in field and station activities for the designated Trait Development Site. The trials and activities you will manage are of utmost importance to Phases 1 – 3 of Product Development, contributing to research and development efforts in the US, as well as influencing product TPOC/CPOC decisions and regulatory approval processes.

This is a remote role in the state of North Carolina. Preferred locations near our current fields are in the areas near or around Pikeville, NC or Clayton, NC.

As a Research Development Specialist, You Create Chemistry By...

  • Planning, planting, spraying, and rating activities to align with TDM trial requests while ensuring adherence to best practices and safety protocols.

  • Maintain regulated field trial workbooks, ensuring compliance with Reg Compliance & Stewardship training, conducting audit activities, and following all compliance requirements – Corporate, Regulatory, Stewardship, QHSE/Safety, QMS, etc.

  • Timely data entry and prompt response to TDM’s technical questions, specific to the trials at their research site(s).

  • Collaborating with 3rd Party researchers conducting external protocols for BASF and being the first point of contact for CRO’s in the respective region.

  • Maintaining active and frequent communication with all TDM’s that have assigned protocols to their respective research station/location.

  • Managing agronomic activities from in-season seeding to harvest, including pest and stress diagnosis, taking proper preventative or remedial action to reduce variability and ensure repeatability.

If you...

Education

  • Have a PhD in agronomy or related field of study plus 2 years of relevant crop and field testing experience.

  • Posses a MS in agronomy or related field of study with 4 years of relevant crop and field testing experience.

  • Have a BS in agronomy or related field of study with 6 years of relevant crop and field testing experience.

Experience

  • Have knowledge of small plot field trial methodology and data analysis.

  • Have understanding of basic crop production practices and associated crop protection products.

  • Are capable of performing the tasks of small plot spraying and other physically demanding field activities in an outdoor environment.

  • Have knowledge and operation of farm equipment – tractor, plot planter, harvesting, etc.

Knowledge/Skills

  • Are able to independently execute high-quality small plot field trials for Herbicide Tolerance, Insect Resistance, Crop Efficiency, and other field or lab Projects.

  • Are able to execute assigned designed protocols, understand protocol objectives, communicate timely with Project Leads, and achieve low CV’s without supervision.

  • Have knowledge of farm equipment and their safe operation, willing to show competency with all equipment necessary for field trial execution.

  • Independent knowledge of Crop Protection products and the proper handling/use of these products. As well as knowledge of expected crop response to different herbicide families.

  • Are able to complete physically demanding work in outdoor environment and capable of lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.

  • Ability to travel up to 10%
