FirstService Residential Accountant (Hybrid) in Naples, Florida

Job Summary

Responsible for the on-site accounting functions including food and beverage, lifestyle activities and HOA for two locations and serving as the liaison between on-site and the general ledger team. This would include daily cash monitoring, sales reporting, providing all necessary month end reports to the general ledger team, preparation of monthly deficit funding calculation and report as well as general support and guidance to the on-site team. The Accountant will play a key role in assisting the food and beverage leadership in achieving department goals by providing various analysis including budget to actual variance reporting and key metric comparisons, standard and ad hoc reports as well as financial statement review.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Monitor bank balances vs. Cash Management report - to ensure sufficient funds are available
  • Review AVID submissions to ensure proper coding and identify any missed ACH transactions
  • Timely prepare developer deficit funding analysis and report
  • Provide various reports to the general ledger team including, but not limited to daily sales, lifestyle reports, inventory reports, cash on hand and others
  • Reconcile the stay & play, lifestyle, marketing invoices and other house charges
  • Review Financial statements for accuracy, identify and research variances or unexplained items on the Income Statement and changes on the Balance Sheet and propose adjustments and reclasses as necessary
  • Provide assistance, support and instruction to on-site team including F&B leadership and the client asset manager
  • Respond timely to requests from the general ledger team
  • Communicate timely the potential issues that may affect the accuracy of the financial statements.
  • Assist with review, interpretation and mapping of the budget as well as enter and submit the budget in the Budget Tool system.
  • Timely follow up and resolve outstanding items and reconciling differences within financial statements.
  • Prepare, file and pay sales and use taxes for both locations
  • Perform periodic surprise cash audits of all cash banks and registers as determined by Standard Operating Procedures
  • Prepare key metric comparison reports, assist on special requests and projects, and prepare ad hoc reporting as needed and requested.
  • Complete other tasks as may be required from time to time.

  • Participate in any variety of meetings and work groups to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems and maintain specified level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, requirements, policies, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Ensure all safety precautions are followed while performing the work.
  • Follow all policies and Standard Operating Procedures as instructed by Management.
  • Perform any range of special projects, tasks and other related duties as assigned

No supervisory responsibilities.

Education & Experience

Bachelors or Associate degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university, and minimum five years in food and beverage or hospitality accounting. General ledger accounting experience a plus; additional years of experience could offset the need for an accounting degree.

Knowledge, Skills & Proficiencies

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Detail oriented and strong organizational skills and multi-tasking skills.
  • Must have a strong work ethic and be detail-oriented with excellent organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Must have strong excel skills along with proficiency in Windows and Microsoft Office, including but not limited to Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Experience with a POS system required, Aloha a plus
  • Ability to work with sensitive or confidential information.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work well under pressure.
  • Ability to perform with minimum supervision and make decisions independently.
  • Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently and be self-driven
  • Critical thinking, problem solving, judgment and decision-making abilities.

Tools & Equipment Used

Computer and peripherals, standard and customized software applications and tools, and usual office equipment.

Compensation: $31.25 per hour.

Physical Requirements/Working Environment

This position will be a combination of working in an office and physical interaction with the on-site food and beverage team. The employee is required to work at a personal computer as well as be on the phone for extended periods of time. Must be able to stand, sit and walk. The incumbent must be able to work extended and flexible hours and weekends as needed. Physical demands include ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
