Position Purpose:

The Paramedic provides comprehensive, compassionate, and quality care for patients in the Emergency Department. Care is provided in conjunction with, and under the direction of the ED nurse and ED physician and under the delegated practice scope of the EMS System. Successful performance contributes to a holistic approach to the delivery of services, quality patient/family care, and a high level of satisfaction from patients and families that we serve.

What you will Do:

  • Administers care to ill or injured patients in the hospital environment according to established standards of care, protocols and/ or physician orders under the direction of the ED nurse and / or ED physician within policies, legal limitations, and paramedic scope of practice.

  • Completes documentation to assure an accurate record of patient’s care.

  • Performs core patient care functions such as but not limited to rooming, monitor hookup, EKGs, vital signs, changing patients into a gown, addressing bathrooms needs, lab draws, documentation of all patient care, stocking of supplies and room change over.

  • Mentors PCS and Paramedic orientees (includes EMS students)

  • Performs advanced activities as delegated by RN/Provider such as but not limited to IV access, medication administration, cardiac interpretation, operate medical equipment, obtain lab specimens and monitor and document EMS report per radio.

  • Demonstrates professional development by keeping current with practice standards in emergency medical services, as well as the hospital setting.

  • Utilizes a holistic approach (considering physical, psycho/social, spiritual, educational, safety, and related criteria) appropriate to the age of the patients served in the assigned service area.

  • Interacts effectively, confidentially, and cooperatively with patient, families, physicians, and pre-hospital, and hospital personnel regarding patient care.

Hours/Schedule:

Part Time 24hrs a week, Evening 12hr shifts

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Completion of a Paramedic or Critical Care Paramedic program with a valid Iowa License.

  • Current license in good standing to practice as a paramedic.

  • Preferred one - two years functioning as a paramedic with an advanced level service.
