Defines, designs and implements network communications and solution improvements. Proposes and implements system enhancements (software and hardware updates) that will improve the performance and reliability of the system. Manages the load configuration of a central data communication processor and makes recommendations for purchase or upgrade of data networks. Coordinates terminal orders and cable installation, network system planning, upgrading, monitoring, testing and servicing. Approves action requests and specifies purchase requirement. Negotiates and places orders with common carriers.

Working at NTT

The role of Network Administrator is accountable for implementing, managing, and troubleshooting an organization’s networks. The Network Administrator will continually check data to make sure the network system is optimized and will look for problems that could either be caused by the network or another user. They ensure new users have been trained properly in network usage.

Key Role and Responsibilities:

  • Determine hardware and software needs, make upgrades, and maintain the network’s security

  • Monitor network performance, identify and repair network problems and errors, and train staff on how to use various computer systems

  • Maintain IT operations such as applications, email systems, hardware, software, and network security tools

  • Upgrade network and computer systems

  • Optimize and maintain system security and telecommunications networks s to ensure data is protected

  • Identify inefficiencies in the organisation’s computer network and making recommendations to address weaknesses

  • Perform routine network audits

  • Troubleshoot issues with an organisation’s local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), and other network segments

  • Collaborate with network architects to build and maintain servers and optimize network performance

  • Ensure network availability to all system users

  • Participate in hardware and software purchasing decisions

  • Plan and execute hardware and software upgrades

  • Create scripts for automation of common tasks

  • Perform all critical data backups and secures data according to established procedures

  • Install firmware and security updates on servers, printers, and related networking equipment

Knowledge, skills and attributes:

  • Proficiency in the operation of local and wide-area networks and components

  • Proficient with current Microsoft Server and client operating systems

  • Display a strong client service orientation and strive to always meet and exceed SLAs

  • Good written and verbal communication skills

  • Good interpersonal skills to help ensure positive interactions – across both internal and external stakeholders

  • Ability to multi-task, often balancing long-term network projects with daily troubleshooting activities

  • Creative thinking skills in order to help develop innovative network designs or solutions to technical problems

  • Organizational skills to be able to maintain accurate documentation regarding the systems and networks being managed

  • Ability to use research skills to identify solutions to problems that arise

  • Proactive abilities with a view to avoiding any problems before they occur

  • Able to use their critical thinking ability to analyse a situation and use their knowledge and resources to develop potential solutions

  • Self-motivated with excellent problem-solving abilities

  • Display a high level of attention to detail and good planning ability

  • High degree of professionalism

  • Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical management and employees

Academic Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a field related to computer or information science

  • Relevant certifications, such as Cisco, Microsoft and related vendors

Experience required:

  • Hands-on experience in a similar or related role
