Description We are offering a short term contract employment opportunity in Costa Mesa, California, for a Medical Billing Specialist. This role primarily involves handling and processing patient payments, reconciling electronic and manual insurance payments, and working closely with internal departments and external business partners. The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate proficiency in various software applications and have a strong grasp of accounting principles.

Responsibilities:

• Processing and reconciling all electronic and manual insurance payments and patient payments in a timely and accurate manner.

• Collaborating with internal departments, external business partners, and accounting for delivering efficient service.

• Maintaining expertise in various software applications such as Affinity, Emdeon, Streamline, and MedAssets.

• Efficiently managing workload to ensure payments are posted promptly.

• Working under pressure and maintaining attention to detail while multitasking.

• Posting batches according to department guidelines and ensuring accurate AR reporting by coordinating closely with Accounting.

• Regularly reviewing and working on Suspense accounts to identify and transfer funds to appropriate patient accounts.

• Conducting payment posting research, identifying errors, transferring funds correctly, and documenting on reconciliation log for reporting to Accounting.

• Contacting payors for additional documentation to identify patient accounts, and working on email requests from staff, management, and other departments for payment posting research within set timeliness guidelines.

• Actively participating in training opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills.

• Participating in problem solving and process improvements and meeting quality assurance and productivity standards.

• Demonstrating knowledge of and effectively using patient account systems and working with minimal supervision. Requirements • Demonstrated proficiency in medical billing and coding procedures

• Strong knowledge of medical coverage and benefit functions

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suites, including Word and Excel

• Experience in documentation, reporting, and maintaining accurate logs

• Ability to handle cash activity and payment processing efficiently

• Proven experience in supervising and training staff

• Excellent research skills to understand complex medical procedures for accurate billing

• Familiarity with clinical trial operations and consumer electronics

• Experience in collaborating with vendors and managing collections processes

• Ability to perform reconciliations and ensure accuracy of billing records

• Experience in managing billing for a medical facility

• Familiarity with relevant websites related to medical billing and insurance

• Ability to implement process improvements and ensure quality assurance

• Experience working with funds in a financial or medical setting.
