    All Harvard University Health Services (HUHS) staff and staff affiliates are considered Health Care Workers and as a condition of employment must provide documentation of the following:

  • Letter of good health from your personal health care provider.

  • TB skin test (within past 3 months) or, if known skin test positive, documentation of previous chest x-ray, information about any past treatment.

  • Documentation of immunity (positive antibody titers) for Measles, Mumps, Rubella and Varicella.

  • Proof of appropriate past immunization for Measles, Mumps, Rubella and Varicella.

  • Hepatitis B vaccine series – required for staff with possible exposure to blood or blood borne pathogens.

  • A current Flu vaccine (this season) and Covid vaccines to include the Primary series and Bivalent Booster.

    The required medical documentation/medical clearances can often be obtained by contacting your Pediatrician, PCP, medical provider. Titers, TB Skin testing can be performed by appointment at Occupational Health facilities.

  • Graduate of accredited nursing program

  • Minimum of 2 years’ relevant work experience

Certificates and Licenses:

  • Licensed in Massachusetts with authorization to practice as a Certified Nurse Practitioner in the state of Massachusetts

  • State and federal DEA certificate

Physical Requirements:

  • Lifting (approximately 20 to 30 pounds), bending, and other physical exertion

  • Ability to stand for extended periods

Working Conditions:

Position Description: Under the supervision of the Nurse Manager, the Nurse Practitioner at HUHS works collaboratively to provide preventive, episodic, and ongoing health care to the adolescent, adult and older adult University Community. The Nurse Practitioner works interdependently within a multidisciplinary team. Provides travel health consultation, immunizations, and related services, as well as primary/urgent care. The Nurse Practitioner will provide care within their scope of practice as outlined by applicable state law, licensing, regulations, institutional policies, and practice agreements.

Clinical Knowledge

  • Demonstrates knowledge of etiologies, risk factors, pathophysiology, presentation and epidemiology of medical conditions relevant to area of practice.

  • Performs history and physical assessments of patients that are accurate, complete, concise, relevant and appropriate for age, gender and clinical problem.

  • Orders appropriate diagnostic studies and correctly interpret the results.

  • Utilizes critical thinking to synthesize and analyze collected data.

  • Develops implements, evaluates and alters the plan of care as needed.

  • Manages general medical and surgical conditions based on knowledge of the indications, contraindications, side effects, interactions and adverse reactions of pharmacologic agents and other relevant treatment modalities.

  • Counsels and educates patients and families.

  • Demonstrates proficiency in procedural skills pertinent to practice area.

  • Maintains accurate, complete, concise and timely documentation in the electronic medical record.
