Boston University EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGIST III, BUMC IT in BOSTON, Massachusetts

Our BU Medical Campus IS&T is looking for an Educational Technologist. This position will:

  • Consult with and provide edtech guidance and technical support for faculty, staff, and students on university-supported educational technologies to enhance teaching and learning for the Medical Campus.

  • Conduct needs analyses for stakeholders to identify current and future state educational technology outcomes.

  • Design and deliver educational technology software/tools/strategies to a diverse group of clients via both in person and online formats.

  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting to monitor uptime and downtime of tools and communicate status as needed to IT and client stakeholders.

  • Coordinate and distribute communication surrounding client support needs and training opportunities in a proactive way, while also responding to incident tickets as they arise.

  • Partner with IT and EdTech colleagues on both BUMC and CRC for collaboration and support ticket sharing across campuses as needed.

  • Maintain productive relationships with various vendors to advocate for product enhancements to meet client needs, and act as the technical liaison between tech vendors and internal BU clients.

  • Research and evaluate emerging edtech solutions that may fit needs or fill gaps. Assess for continual improvement possibilities, then design initiatives to fill the gaps.

  • Design surveys and instruments to assess performance, satisfaction, and client preferences using Qualtrics.

Required Skills

Technical Expertise

  • Strong skills with ed tech platforms, software, and functions a must - (experience in varied professional and institutional environments is a plus)

  • Expertise with curriculum management and assessment platforms, workflows and processes - experience with Learning Management Systems (Blackboard desired) as well as PointSolutions, NVivo, Qualtrics, Wordpress, Camtasia, and basic HTML programming

  • Strong experience with a variety of program workflows commonly leveraged in a complex higher education environment

  • Experience training others on web site content management and development with WordPress is a plus

  • Ability to proactively resolve help tickets and monitor ticket activity to look for any trends that need escalation

  • Three to five years implementing and providing technical support on educational technology

  • Degree in Educational Technology and/or Learning Design and ITIL certification

  • While this is not an instructional designer role, knowledge of instructional design principles and practices is helpful, as is Backward Design, and Technical Writing. Basic video recording and editing skills are desired to create short video training tutorials, targeting the creation of training or demonstration assets.
