The Idaho State Tax Commission is recruiting for a Tax Auditor 1 position in the Audit Division within the Tax Discovery Bureau in Boise. Tax types in examples of duties section below

Tax Auditors interact with taxpayers and their representatives to verify the accuracy of tax returns and prepare reports of findings, conclusions, or recommendations. The Audit team is our first line of defense in protecting Idaho citizens from very sophisticated fraudsters trying to extract money from taxpayers.   • Effectively and professionally communicate both orally and in writing

    Responsibilities:

  • Communicate orally and in writing with taxpayers and their representatives to verify the accuracy of tax returns through review of accounting systems, financial statements, work papers, tax and payroll records and other related documents.

  • Research and analyze data for accuracy to ensure compliance with State tax laws and regulations.

  • Prepare audit findings and summaries.

  • Identify legal issues and apply appropriate statute, rules and legal precedents.

  • Business Income Tax

  • Participate in team audits

    Minimum Qualifications:

We highly encourage new college grads to apply!

Good knowledge of accounting principles and practices.

Typically gained by having at least two years of professional work experience as an accountant, or equivalent, applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), AND having at least 12 college credits, or equivalent coursework, in accounting, including the equivalent of Intermediate I and II.

OR

Having at least four years of professional work experience as an accountant, or equivalent, applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Students who are currently in their last semester of college earning a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or in Business with accounting emphasis are encouraged to apply and are eligible to be placed on the hiring list. A job offer cannot be made until after graduation with degree.
