Job Description:

Binghamton University is leading the New Energy New York (NENY) initiative, coordinating a diverse cross-sector coalition, to build a leading battery and energy storage innovation ecosystem in upstate New York. Binghamton-led NENY has been selected as one of the 10 U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) Regional Innovation Engines (NSF Engine: Upstate New York Energy Storage Engine), with funding of up to $160M to advance three key pillars, use-inspired research and development (R&D), technology translation, and workforce development, in the battery and energy storage field.

Binghamton University is seeking a Workforce Development Program Manager to support the implementation of component programs under the workforce development pillar. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing relevant grant and funding opportunity administration, facilitating activities and programs across partner organizations focused on training and workforce development opportunities, promoting academia/industry/government interactions, synergizing existing programs, and broadening participation for an inclusive ecosystem.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with Engine leadership to develop and deploy strategic and implementation plans for Engine programs supporting workforce development efforts at Binghamton University and Engine partner organizations, including other universities, community colleges, K-12, community organizations, and industry partners.

  • Support the development and implementation of workforce training programs in collaboration with academic institutions, industry partners, and training organizations.

  • Support gap and needs assessments of regional industry workforce needs.

  • Foster partnerships to enhance training opportunities and job placement.

  • Manage relevant Engine funding opportunities, including the solicitation of proposals through Request for Proposals (RFPs), as well as post-award process for Engine grant awardees, including grant administration, grantee communications, and data collection.

  • Facilitate partnerships between various training and community organizations across the region to address identified industry workforce needs.

  • Represent the Engine, NENY initiative, and programs at relevant regional and national conferences and stakeholder events.

  • Develop strong, competency-based relationships with the campus community, as well as with external Engine partners in the public and private sectors.

  • Connect, network, and synergize existing NENY and workforce development programs at Binghamton university and partner organizations, expanding Engine programs; reach and impact.

  • Coordinate with Engine leadership and relevant internal and external partners to foster initiatives to broaden participation in various training programs, and Advocate for inclusive and equitable workforce practices within the industry.

  • Support budget management related to workforce development pillar activities.

  • Support relevant metrics collection and reporting related to the workforce development pillar, including preparing summaries for stakeholder presentations and reports based on funding agency requirements.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in education, business administration, or a related field, with experience in workforce development.

  • 3+ years of proven experience in program management.

  • Experience with grant administration and funding processes.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; strong written skills.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, video conferencing platforms, and various database, project management, or CRM platforms.

Preferred Skills, Knowledge & Experience:

  • Master's degree.

  • Knowledge of the energy sector's workforce needs, particularly in battery technology.

  • Experience working with industry leadership

  • Experience in developing and implementing training programs and building partnerships.

  • Experience with strategies and practices related to broadening participation in training programs.

Additional Information:

Salary: $85,000 - $90,000 Annually
