PayPal Senior Android Engineer in Bangalore, India

As an Android engineer, you will be responsible for the crafting, building, testing and release of PayPal’s Android mobile application(s). As a senior engineer of our team, you will work with designers, product managers and other engineers to build new experiences and improve existing products, develop robust software solutions and dependable products for PayPal’s merchants and consumers. You’ll estimate engineering efforts, work with product managers to prioritize projects, plan and drive implementations, and triage production issues. You need to be dynamic, collaborative and curious, as you’ll work in a fast-paced environment where continuous experimentation and innovation are a given.

You are expected to be a self-starter and a team player, with a strong drive for results and continuous innovations. You should be able to deliver work with minimal supervision and work with geographical distributed teams in collaborative manner.

Responsibilities include:

  • Partner closely with engineering managers, product managers, designers, engineers, etc. to develop innovative solutions that meet market needs w.r.t functionality, performance, reliability, realistic implementations schedules and adherence to development goals and principles.

  • Design and build complex and high performance mobile application. The code has to be scalable and follow the best practices on the latest mobile apps development and PayPal’s technology standards.

  • Provide technical and domain thought-leadership and mentoring to other junior members of the team.

  • Deliver code in an agile team environment.

  • Review and approve software design and implemented code of other peer engineers.

  • Identify areas of technical improvement and make detailed business cases for improvements or new areas of opportunities.

  • Maintain and enhance the existing architectural documentations and create the new one as needed

Job Requirements:

  • B.E./B.Tech. in Computer Science or equivalent with 5+ years of software industry experience.

  • 3+ years of Android development experience

  • Candidate must be able to work independently as well as in a team to define, design, implement, test, document, release rollout and support complex software applications for PayPal.

  • Skilled with the MVVM, MVC, MVP patterns

  • Knowledge of multi-threaded, asynchronous code

  • Good understanding of the Android lifecycle, SDK/API's and performance optimization

  • Experience with multi-platform responsive design

  • Proficiency in developing libraries, dynamic modules and SDKs

  • Good understanding of RxJava, Kotlin coroutines, retrofit, okhttp

  • Experience with Git, Gradle and the Android build system

  • Skilled at writing Unit and Automation tests

  • Knowledge of unit/function/system testing tools such as Espresso, Junit, Cucumber, Appium

  • Have published one or more mobile apps in Google Play Store

  • Strong problem solving skills and being open minded about solving a technical problem in more than one way.

  • Interested in keeping up-to-date with the latest technological developments

  • Ability to work on different applications with quick context switching and being able to debug complicated applications with relative ease.

  • Excellent verbal and writing skills; ability to produce clear, concise communications and documentation.

  • Highly effective at working in cross-functional groups and getting results in geographically distributed matrix organizations.
