Johns Hopkins University Program Coordinator in Baltimore, Maryland

The Department of Pediatrics is seeking a Program Coordinator . This position is administratively responsible to the Pediatric Emergency Department and will be supervised on a day-to-day basis by the co-directors of the School-Based Mental Health Liaison Program.

The School-Based Mental Health Liaison Program consists of 3 main components: 1- Universal suicide prevention, targeting students, families, teachers, and health personnel in the Baltimore City Schools selected for intervention. 2- Targeted training, training all mental health school personnel involved in providing mental health care in schools in safety planning, lethal means reduction, and crisis intervention. 3- Crisis intervention, offering another layer of support by using telehealth perform urgent evaluations for selected students through the pediatric psychiatry consultation team in the Johns Hopkins Emergency Department.

The program coordinator will plan and coordinate education sessions for mental health providers and counselors in schools, ensuring evaluations and program feedback are completed, and coordinating clinicians and collecting data on requests made to the program. They will maintain records relating to the program and those who participate in it. The program coordinator may also provide assistance with coordination and clinical research relating to suicide prevention initiatives in the Pediatric Emergency Department.

This position will work as part of a team of clinicians and staff in multiple venues – including various public schools in the Baltimore City Public School System and the Pediatric Emergency Department at the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center in Baltimore.

The program coordinator performs duties associated with planning, implementation, evaluation and the conduct of clinical research as it relates to the School-Based Mental Health Liaison Program and other suicide prevention initiatives in the Pediatric Emergency Department. This position is currently funded for one year but may be extended.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the school-Based Mental Health Liaison Program and other suicide prevention initiatives in the Pediatric Emergency Department.

  • Plan and coordinate education sessions for mental health providers and counselors in schools, ensuring evaluations and program feedback are completed.

  • Coordinate clinician scheduling and collect data on requests made to the program.

  • Establish and manage grant budgets and reimbursement.

  • Assist with writing program protocols and clinical research protocols.

  • Collect data from patient medical records (if applicable), prepare and code data entry, enter and maintain computer databases.

  • Coordinate meetings with the research team.

  • Administrative duties as assigned.

  • Develop database tools and organize research study data (e.g. REDCap).

  • Participate in writing of manuscript and literature reviews for publications.

  • Collaborate with a biostatistician to determine research study design and analysis.

  • Assist with IRB submission.

  • Recruit study participants who are eligible to participate in clinical research (if applicable).

  • Assist with grant writing (if applicable).

  • Other research duties assigned by the co-directors of the School-Based Mental Health Liaison Program.

Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Proficiency in the use of software applications, databases, spreadsheets, and word processing Word/Excel required.

  • Outstanding organizational skills required.

  • Excellent attention to detail skills required.

  • Must have excellent time management skill.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects at once, and effectively prioritize each.

  • Requires outstanding verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Experience in program management, in health education, or health promotion is preferred but not required. Familiarity with medical terminology is preferred.

  • Experience and comfort with minority and urban communities is preferred.

  • Must adhere to guidelines regarding honest reporting of sensitive and confidential patient information.

  • Understands the importance/impact of data integrity in terms of patients, study results, costs, quality of service and scientific research in general.

  • Regular contact with physicians, other health care personnel and occasionally, patients, as well as school personnel and students require the use of good judgment, tact and sensitivity.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk or sit for an extended period of time.

  • Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction.

  • Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s).

  • Ability to move standard equipment through a hospital or clinical environment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or graduation equivalent.

  • Five years progressively responsible related experience.

  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preferred bilingual (English, Spanish) although not required.

  • Must have valid Maryland driver license. This position requires travel to various Baltimore City schools.

Role/Level/Range: ATO 37.5/03/OF

Starting Salary Range: $21.00 - $36.50 HRLY ($53,000 targeted; Commensurate with experience)
