Sr. Construction Scheduler in Data Center Engineering - Civil, Structural, Architectural Solutions (DCE-CSAS) team has the ability to understand the customer demand as well as the technology & business opportunities that exist in order to lead the organization forward; providing construction cost, schedule, and constructability guidance. You understand key problems, and propose and analyze multiple solutions to produce the most efficient, cost effective, resilient and scalable achievable data center with best construction schedules and cost, not only for Civil, Structural, Architectural disciplines but also for Mechanical, Electrical, Control, and whole Data Center Engineering disciplines.

Sr. Construction Scheduler in DCE-CSAS provides the global vision, rationale and recommendations to leadership teams for next-generation data center construction schedule planning, construction activity coordination, and monitoring the construction schedule in new and existing sites, while ensuring current systems meet engineering performance, constructability and operational standards.

As a Sr. Construction Scheduler in DCE-CSAS, you are a leader and visionary in your field, working within and leading the work of cross-functional teams that include: technical program management, product management, architect, structural, civil, mechanical, and electrical engineering, supply chain management, construction, operations, safety and security, and legal. You will participate in external forums/consortiums to understand current trends and developments within the industry. You will be responsible for leading the global construction schedule control goal and strategy, constructability of new data center template and product innovation/development, and remediations of existing sites.

Key job responsibilities

As a Sr. Construction Scheduler, you will be leading projects to ever-evolving customer needs for the new and existing AWS data center fleet as we continue hyper-scale expansion. As an ideal candidate:

• You understand the key aspects of legacy and modern data center construction systems. Using this experience, you identify improvement areas of value engineering and defining/tracking construction schedule performance metrics in existing and next-generation data center.

• You are responsible for and oversee the creation and improvement of data center basis of design & project specifications to drive standardization in the data center construction schedule performance.

• You conceive, initiate and lead projects with widespread impact on infrastructure construction schedule strategy, innovation and implementation.

• You are responsible for, conduct, and provide oversight for the review of the constructability of next generation data center designs and financial analysis, and schedule/sequence of construction.

• You conduct schedule and critical path analysis on design variations of civil, structural, architectural, electrical and mechanical designs associated with the construction of new data centers or optimization/retrofit of existing data centers.

• You review bid summaries, schedules and milestones, labor pricing, and perform subcontractor evaluations.

• You implement, maintain and execute schedule control, construction sequence, change management, progress and performance reporting.

• You decompose complex construction schedule problems or new technologies or topologies to distill underlying risks and benefits, and identify straightforward and actionable solutions to reduce risk.

A day in the life

Amazon has a global presence; therefore 20% to 40% travel will be necessary. International support will be part of the job, and some international travel will be necessary with short notice. Support could consist of visiting data centers, working on international teams and could require developing schematic and design document packages with best construction schedule and value engineering for both global future and existing sites. An understanding of international construction schedule control practices is preferable.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Civil, Structural, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or 8+ years of relevant experience.

• 5+ years of experience in construction scheduling and control.

• 5+ years of experience in data center delivery (design, commissioning and construction) or mission critical facilities or equivalent.

• Experience developing a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) based on the scope of work and construction packages of a large-scale industrial project.

• Experience reading and interpreting construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents

• Ability and willingness to travel internationally/domestically with short notice.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Architecture, Civil, Structural, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.

• 7+ years of relevant new and remediation design, construction, cost, scheduling, operation, and maintenance experience with mission critical facilities, especially data centers, or complex technical infrastructure projects.

• Experience with construction schedule software such as Primavera P6 and MS Project and review of schedule quality using DCMA 14-point assessment.

• Knowledge of the scope and construction life cycle sequencing of project schedules and proven ability with Earned Value Management of project schedules

• Experience and proven ability with Construction Critical Path analysis for all data center engineering disciplines.

• Knowledge of building codes and construction practice.

• Strong secondary understanding of uninterruptible power supplies, diesel generators, electrical switchgear, power distribution, electrical control systems, automatic/static transfer switches, chillers, cooling towers, direct and indirect evaporative cooling, variable speed drives, mechanical control systems, fan systems, acoustics, and fire detection/suppression.

• Possess excellent communication skills, attention to detail, maintain high quality standards.

• Ability and willingness to think outside of the box to find creative and innovative solutions to reduce construction cost and schedule while managing impact to quality and constructability.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $114,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $212,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
